Britain’s new ambassador to Russia

Russia

On August 2, 2023, the United Kingdom announced the change of its ambassador to Moscow. Nigel Casey was appointed to replace Deborah Bronnert.

Since 1991 Nigel worked in the British Foreign Office, and there he headed the department dealing with relations with Iraq, was Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, headed the High Commission of the United Kingdom in the Republic of South Africa, from 2021 to 2023 he was Director of the Office for Afghanistan and Pakistan. A very interesting page of Nigel’s biography – in 2003-2006 he headed the foreign policy department at the British Embassy in Russia. By the way, Casey is fluent in Russian.

Casey claims that he made the decision to come to Russia in such difficult times to solve important pressing problems between Western countries and Russia.

Recently, Nigel’s first appeal to Russians appeared online:

“Maintaining relations with the Russian government and people remains important to the UK. It is more important now than ever, because the decisions Russia makes matter to the whole world”

It is indeed very good that despite the world situation there are people in the West willing to work on relations with Russia. Welcome, Nigel Casey!
