Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón has been Prime Minister of Spain since 2018, re-elected in 2023. In 2014, he became the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE).

Pedro Sánchez has been married to Maria Begonia Gómez Fernández for 18 years. It is because of his wife’s accusations that Pedro Sanchez’s thoughts of resigning are linked.

On April 24, Maria was accused of trading influence and business corruption. A judicial investigation was launched. The Manos Limpias (Clean Hands) labor union made the accusation. It is famous for its many grievances, and is an extreme right-wing organization.

After the announcement of this story, Pedro Sanchez decided to suspend himself from his position to decide whether to stay or leave his post.

On April 25, the head of Manos Limpias, Miguel Bernad, said that the accusations are based on information taken from some digital media, which could be either true or false.

Thousands of Spaniards came out to rallies in support of Pedro Sanchez. Numerous petitions were sent in which people urged the Prime Minister to stay.

On April 29, Pedro Sanchez announced that he was staying in office, saying that the allegations against his wife were false. Also, the Prime Minister said he would work with more vigor.
