Armita Geravand passed away in hospital, after a 28-day coma. She suffered severe head trauma due to a fall in the metro in early October.

Armita was travelling to study in the metro and “lost her balance and sustained severe injury due to a blow to her head”.

CNN reported that the student had a conflict with police officers who reprimanded her for not wearing the hijab properly. But Iranian media, citing statements by acquaintances of Geravand, reported that there was no conflict. This is also indicated by the footage from the underground surveillance cameras.

It is also reported that the parents of the deceased girl have studied the videos from the underground. They were personally convinced that their daughter had no contact with anyone in the underground.

Since April, the Tehran Metro has not allowed open-faced women on the underground. At the same time, the Iranian government announced the installation of street surveillance cameras to record women.
