The France is on fire

Last night turned out to be a terrific nightmare for the French natives. More than 100 participants of the mass strikes were arrested in the heart of France. What is going on and why does Paris burst into flames?

It happened on 15th December, 2022 that France beat Morocco in the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup 2022. On the same night the grass-roots strikes started in Paris. The spectators moved towards Champs-Élysées.

It all began with a bright celebration. But soon enough Moroccan and French fans started gathering on the Champs-Élysées. It took less than a few hours for the police to surround the city. More than 5,000 officers were deployed in the greater Paris area, and a total of 10,000 across the country.

“Everyone is afraid of the Civil War. We do not want the Champs-Élysées to become a combat zone”,  – the French official.

The fan movement has also concerned some other parts of France. Subsequently, just after the semi-final match the fan movements flowed around the country. Niсe, Montpellier, Brussel and Bordo were attacked by the spectators. As weapons there were used stones, fireworks, glass bottles and even the street rubbish. The police guardians were forced to use tear gas in order to disperse the crowds.

For the moment the French government regrets what they said about the victims. As a result of the strikes a 14 year old (13 year old, according to the different data) teenager was killed in Montpellier and 167 spectators were arrested at any rate.

Glancing on the events of the past night in a retrospective, it is not surprising to witness such events. Strictly speaking, the basement of a confrontation between France and Morocco lies in colonial relations between the countries. Long ago France was rising its influence in Morocco. In 1912 the French protectorate was established in Morocco and the latter became the colony of the former. The independence of Morocco was brought back only in 1956. Now the countries are close economic partners sharing both money and lands. According to the 2019th statistics, there are more than 755 thousands of Moroccans living in France right now.

The events of the past few days are quite predictable. They do not only depend on the football victory. On the one hand, they may be a result of an immigration issue  in France. On the other, it is an act of unstoppable revenge for the Moroccan colony.
