Parliamentary elections in Serbia. Protests by the opposition

Мир

On Sunday, December 17, early parliamentary elections were held in Serbia. The coalition “Serbia against Violence”, which is also the opposition, hoped to take the place of the coalition of President Aleksandar Vucic – the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SSP).

However, according to the results, the opposition bloc won about 23% of the vote. The incumbent ruling party came first with over 46% of the vote.

The opposition disagreed with the election results, accusing the SSP of vote-buying and fraud, and staged a protest in the streets of Belgrade. Opposition leaders Marinika Tepic and Miroslav Aleksic went on hunger strike.

Now, people supporting the opposition are breaking into buildings, smashing everything around them, and knocking down ordinary citizens. Their only goal is to achieve new municipal and, most importantly, fair elections.
