International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2024

Мир

As early as the nineteenth century, Germany began to become an anti-Semitic country, intolerant of Jews. It was proposed to “cleanse” Europe of them. In the 30s of the twentieth century in Germany began to massively oppress Jews. 1935 – the adoption of the Nuremberg anti-Jewish laws in Germany, which completely abolished all the rights of Jews.

In 1941-1943, the murder of the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe begins: men, women and children are shot en masse in ravines. From 1943 until the end of World War II, Jews were sent to death camps, where they were subjected to unbearable torture and then burned alive or poisoned with carbon monoxide in special chambers.

On January 27, 1945, the Soviet Army liberated the prisoners of the largest Nazi death camp in Germany, Auschwitz, among whom there were many Jews. This event is one of the most important in the history of the Holocaust; that is why Memorial Day is celebrated on this date.

More than 6 million Jews died during the entire period of this persecution and mass extermination, which is called Holocaust – catastrophe (translated from Hebrew). In modern publicity, the word refers to the policies of Nazi Germany.

On January 27 in 2005, the United Nations established a Holocaust Memorial Day around the world. On these days there are various concerts, art exhibitions, seminars dedicated to the Holocaust. In Bulgaria, for example, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the places where Jews were murdered.

It is important not to forget and always remember events like the Holocaust, to keep the memory of the victims alive, to express respect for those who survived. Memories of this horror will help to prevent it in the future
