Iran helps Afghanistan in the wake of earthquake

According to Tass.ru, the Iranian Red Crescent Society has sent 10 rescue teams and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

The devastating earthquake killed more than 2,000 people.

The magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck 40 km west of the city of Herat in Afghanistan in the evening of 7 October.

According to Babak Mahmoudi, a spokesman for the society, 50 humanitarian workers were sent to Afghanistan on October 8 as part of 10 task forces from Khorasan-Rezavi, North Khorasan and South Khorasan provinces. He was quoted as saying in a statement by the humanitarian organisation.

A humanitarian aid shipment including 500 tents, 1,000 carpets, 4,000 blankets, and 500 food packages was also sent to Afghanistan.
