Presidential elections in Egypt

Egypt has opened the first day of presidential elections. Voting will last three days and some 67 million Egyptians are eligible to vote.

In addition to al-Sisi, three other candidates are vying for the title of Egyptian president. They are Hazem Omar, leader of the Republican People’s Party, Abdel Sanad Yamama, head of the liberal Wafd Party, and Farid Zahran, chairman of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party.

The results of the first round will be known on 18 December.

Egypt’s out-of-country presidential elections were held 1-3 December. Voting took place in 137 polling stations in 121 countries.

The incumbent President al-Sisi came to power in 2014.
