On 17th of September, the opening of the Grand Kid’s Festival 2023 took place, which will last 2 months (from 17th of September to 21th of November). The Grand Kid’s Festival has been held since 2018.

27 children of different ages are part of the Kid’s Jury. They will have hard and responsible work: they will need to visit different theaters in Moscow, evaluate productions and choose the best performances from the very best. More than 600 creative works from all over Russia were reviewed for the children, but only 79 projects were selected: 37 performances, 19 films and 22 books. To make it easier to evaluate, the members of the Children’s Jury were divided into two groups by age: younger (8-11 years old) and older (12-16 years old).

“All the best that has been created over the year for children in a variety of directions has been collected at this Grand Kid’s Festival. It will be up to the children – our Kid’s Jury – to decide which of these will be truly the best. It is very important for us to understand why they liked what we offer. But there was something I didn’t like. It is also very important to understand why, in order to take it into account for the future. This is not just an entertainment festival. This is still such painstaking work so that we can better understand our children, what are they interested in in our complex, difficult times, how much they can understand serious meanings, adult meanings, how much they are still children,” – told reporters Russian artist Sergei Bezrukov during the opening of the festival.

The judges will be judged not only by those involved in theatre, but also by those interested in directing, sports, art and journalism. To get into the jury, everyone went through a competitive selection: they filmed video business cards about themselves, wrote reviews and sent a list of their personal achievements.

The children’s jury will select the best creative projects in traditional categories:

  1. Best dramatic performance (junior and senior age groups)
  2. Best puppet theater performance for children (younger and older age groups)
  3. Best musical performance for children
  4. Best feature film for children (younger and older age groups)
  5. Best animated film for children
  6. Best book for children (younger and older age groups)

And also for two more new nominations that appeared in 2022:

  1. Best inclusive performance
  2. “My favorite region.” Here we will be shown the best productions, which are based on folk tales and historical materials.

The guys have already attended many interesting and unusual performances in various theaters in Moscow, for example, at the Moscow Provincial Theater, the Teresa Durova Theater, the S.V. Obraztsov, Theater of Mimicry and Gesture. We also watched films at the “Illusion” cinema and attended book meetings.
