Back to the Future: The Collaboration of Louis Vuitton X Yayoi Kusama

Art

The vibrant Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collection launches in January 2023. Their first collaboration took place 10 years ago.

Yayoi Kusama is one of the most famous and highest paid artists on the market, often a single piece can cost around $5-7 million.

The most unusual and interesting fact about the artist is that for her life’s work, she leaves the psychiatric clinic in the morning and returns there after working for 12 hours. Yayoi believes that art can save lives.

Three of the fashion house’s signature fragrances have received a makeover from Kusama. They are housed in polka dot bottles and enclosed leather travel cases. They include Attrape-Rêves with peony, cocoa and patchouli notes, L’Immensité with hints of ginger and grapefruit, and Spell On You with scents of iris pallid and rose.

The first part of the Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton fragrance collection will go on sale on 6 January 2023 and the second part will hit shops on 31 March 2023.

The collection also includes the brand’s handbags with designs by Kusama.

At the time of the first collaboration 10 years ago, a collection was created in which the brand peas Kusama was transferred to scarves, dresses, shoes and passed on the aesthetics of the 60s.

In the new collection of spots of yellow, white, blue and red colours without strict outlines, it is made to transfer the technique of rice by hand.

Some products are decorated with silver beads, which is a reference to one of the most famous works of Kusam «Narcissa Garden» in 1966.

On 29 November, the fashion house and Kusama announced the upcoming event in Tokyo, applying various installations to it.

Pea has the shape of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the world and our living life, as well as the shape of the calm moon. Round, soft, colourful, meaningless and unaware, the Pea cannot stand alone; like the communicative life of humans, two or three peas become a movement … The pea is a path to infinity . The art objects are located around Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Station”- Yayoi Kusama

Each of the platforms is overlaid with augmented reality filters that will show live animation, while the phone camera functions allow you to get to know the imaginary characters up close.
