Fire on the Nevsky Manufactory

On April 12 at 12:35 pm, the fire department received a message about a fire on the Oktyabrskaya embankment. The 4th and 5th floors were on fire. The fire intensified, and every 15 minutes it intensified to a new level of difficulty, reaching the maximum fifth level by 13:13, and the area of the fire exceeded 10,000 square meters. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, forty people had to be evacuated. More than 350 firefighters,70 pieces of equipment, one K-32 EMERCOM helicopter and two Mi-8 helicopters were sent to fight the fire. More than 240 tons of water was dumped on the burning building.

Already in the morning of April 13, only walls were left of the “Neva Manufactory”, but the firefighters did not stop working. The fire managed to save 11 cats living there in the shelter “fluffy paws”. But unfortunately, there were some casualties. When extinguishing the fire, five rescuers were hospitalized, one of them died. Dozens of tenants were also affected, according to unofficial data there were 50 of them. The “Nevskaya Manufactory” housed small manufacturing enterprises, studios and warehouses.

The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, announced the need to restore the building that was burnt down in a fire on the Oktyabrskaya Embankment, which is a historical monument under state protection. Beglov also expressed his condolences to the relatives of the rescue service employee who died in the fire.

According to various sources, the damage from the fire at the “Nevskaya Manufactory” can be estimated at hundreds of millions of rubles. The prosecutor’s office has not yet found out who is responsible for the fire, there are many versions, from arson to a short circuit. But enterprises that have burned to the ground, and most importantly human lives, cannot be revived from the ashes.
