On June 28, in the afternoon, the capital was hit by a heavy downpour after a debilitating heat wave. The temperature in those days crossed the line of 30 degrees. The stuffiness on the street created a tense situation, bringing discomfort to the residents of Moscow and not giving freedom of action. After such a heat wave, rains usually begin, and this case was no exception.

In the daytime, about 13.00, almost evening darkness came, then thunder rolled over the capital and a “wall” of water appeared — heavy rain began. Visibility in some places did not reach even five meters, lightning struck even on the roofs of residential buildings.
“In the middle of the day, a cold atmospheric front passed, followed by a cooler air mass, the temperature contrast in the front zone is about 10 degrees. That is, in the west of the Central District it was 25 degrees, and in the east the air warmed up to 35 degrees. Therefore, powerful cumulus clouds were formed with strong thunderstorms and an increase in wind up to 23-25 meters per second was accompanied by such weather. In an hour, about 40% of the monthly precipitation rate fell in Moscow, ” — said Lyudmila Parshina, a leading specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center.

Dozens of fallen trees, torn roofs, water in underground passages, suspension of traffic in the subway, flooded streets and roads are only part of the consequences.
Here are some of the large-scale consequences of the flood:
- Due to the explosion at the power plant in Shchelkovo, half of the city was left without electricity.
- In Khimki, lightning hit the roof of a house and provoked a fire.
- The metro stations “Yasenevo”, “Kuntsevskaya” and “Bagrationovskaya” were flooded, as a result of which it was necessary to stop the movement of trains, since it was only possible to swim, but not to go in any way.
- Pravda Street had to be closed and cleaning work started because of the roof that fell directly on the cars.
