On May 16, a protest against the new law on control in the educational sphere was held in Moscow on Vorobyovy Gory.
Before that, the State Duma adopted amendments to the law “On Education in the Russian Federation” in the third reading. The reason for the introduction of such an amendment was the initiative of the deputies and senators from the Commission to Investigate the Facts of Foreign Interference in the internal Affairs of Russia. According to official data, such a law is aimed at prohibiting the incitement of political, social, religious or national conflicts. The law should come into force on June 1, 2021.
According to the protesters, such law is radical.
During the protest, about 30 people turned out to be in the car parks. The event was attended by associate professors of departments and teachers of Moscow State University. Here is how one of them, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Boris Kashin, puts it: “The law on Educational Activities is just an episode in the wrecking policy of the state in relation to science and education.”
”The new rules actually provide the state with a monopoly in the field of educational activities, which will inevitably make it even poorer, ” — said Sergey Popov, an astrophysicist.
As at many other actions organized by the Communist Party, this time a protester in a cheburashka suit appeared near the main building of the Moscow State University. Of course, he was immediately arrested by the police. People were also arrested, shouting phrases that scientists and the entire teaching staff of Moscow State University, who came to the rally, “don’t have enough knowledge to understand the importance of the law.”
By the end of the campaign, a unanimous resolution was adopted that the amendments to the law on educational activities should be implemented for minors and foreign agents.
