Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador suggested that the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean create an alliance somewhat similar to the well-known EU. Such a proposal was received from the head of state at the summit of the foreign Ministers of the member states of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Countries, the summit was held in the capital of Mexico, Mexico City.

“The proposal is to create something similar to the European Union, taking into account our history, reality and identities. If we think in the same vein, we cannot exclude the replacement of the Organization of American States (OAS) with a truly independent organization that will not be someone’s servant, but will act as a mediator at the request and with the consent of the conflicting parties in matters related to human rights,” — Lopez’s proposal sounded.

The President stressed that today his proposal may “sound like a utopia” but in refutation of this fact, he noted that “you need to remember that if you do not set yourself higher goals for the future, you will not achieve anything, and therefore it is worth trying”. In addition, Obrador recognizes that the issue of creation requires a new vision, both political and economic.

In addition to all of the above, there was a call for states not to close their economies from other countries, and the importance of dialogue with the United States was noted.
