Taiwan’s “peaceful reunification” with China

China’s plans to regain Taiwan

Last October, the conflict between China and Taiwan Island escalated dramatically. China promises peaceful reunification with its former territory.

In 1949, as a result of the revolution in China, Taiwan seceded from the country. The Communists took over the PRC and the former democratically minded government fled to the island. To this day, Taiwan has a constitution that was approved by China in 1946.

Although Taiwan functioned as a separate state, with its own parliament and even armed forces, most of the international community refused to accept its sovereignty. This is necessary to maintain diplomatic relations with China.

China considers Taiwan a breakaway site and plans to annex these territories back. China plans to do this peacefully, but if necessary does not exclude a forceful way to resolve the conflict.

“No one can force Taiwan to follow the path that China has prepared for us”, – Tsai Ing-wen said.

“Taiwan is on the first line of defense of democracy”.”We hope for an improvement in relations and will not act recklessly, but there should be no illusion that the Taiwanese people will succumb to pressure”, –  the head of Taiwan said.

Since early October, more than 150 Chinese military aircraft, including aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons, have flown over Taiwan’s air defense zone. Taiwan perceived the incident as a threat to its national security. The president of the island state has expressed concern about the possibility of an armed conflict with China. The Chinese government, for its part, rejected Tsai Ing-wen’s offers to negotiate, calling her a separatist.

In the event of military operations by China towards Taiwan, there is a risk of an armed clash between China and the United States, which will defend Taiwan due to strained relations with China. The violent confrontation between the two nuclear superpowers can greatly affect the world community as a whole.
