German Chancellor Angela Merkel has witnessed and will appear before a Bundestag committee investigating an alleged scam by German electronic payment operator Wirecard. Her application was scheduled for April 23. The Vice-Chancellor, Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, and Economy Minister Peter Altmaier will also address the members of the committee.
“April will be Intensive,” said Florian Toncaru, a representative of the Free Democratic Party (FDP).

Earlier, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) wrote a statement to the Department of Commercial Affairs of the Singapore Police, which opened a criminal investigation against Wirecard:
“The IAU has contacted the relevant financial institutions to determine whether there has been any misuse of Singapore’s financial system for illegal purposes,” the IAU said in a statement.
“We will take action if we find signs of a violation or serious omissions in the fight against money laundering.”
The Monetary Authority of Singapore recommended that local Wirecard entities ensure that their customers’ funds are transferred to local banks. Next, the company’s brilliant director, Marcus Brown, was arrested, and the top management was fired. Wirecard’s chief operating officer, Jan Marsalek, who is considered a key figure in the investigation, has disappeared.
Interestingly, Angela Merkel promoted the company’s interests during an official visit to China in September 2019. According to Russian and German media, the German Chancellor will address the Bundestag committee to explain this situation. With this party, Marsalek also had close ties, and to it he passed on secret information. It was also reported that in 2017, Jan Marsalek, during a meeting with business partners, boasted of a trip he made to the ruins of Palmyra in Syria as a guest of the Russian military shortly after the territory was recaptured from ISIS.”

The German authorities are still investigating the cases of former Wirecard managers. Three of them were arrested, and the Austrian Jan Marsalek, is hiding from the investigation. According to German media and investigative projects, he may be in Belarus or Russia. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noticed that the Kremlin doesn’t know anything about the presence of Marsalek in Russia.
