Is there a new COVID-19 vaccine in Russia? A vaccine that is more effective than the famous “Sputnik V”

Kremlin today

Despite some facts, it’s still too early to draw conclusions.
On February 27, 2021, voluntary vaccination with the new Sputnik Light vaccine, which is based on Sputnik V, was launched in Moscow. This was announced to the media by the Deputy mayor of the capital for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.

“As the volunteers will be examined, the volume of vaccination will increase. Now there is an active application process. In two days, 490 people were examined, ” she said.

According to her words, the one-component drug Sputnik-Light will be administered to people, who develop a good immune response with one injection. Basically, this is a group of young people from 18 to 30 years old. It’s also very likely that this vaccine will be used for revaccination.

The Ministry of Health gave the go-ahead for the implementation of the third stage of the Sputnik Light research on February 17. The completion of these studies is scheduled for January 2022.
“Sputnik Light” — comparable to 1 injection of “Sputnik-V”. The Sputnik-V vaccine is known to be administered twice. The evaluation of its effectivity after the third phase of research was about 91.5% (data were published by The Lancet), while the first stage of injection of this vaccine, the level of protection against COVID-19 was about 87.5%.
Recall that “Sputnik V”, at the end of February 2021, was registered in 31 countries. 12 of them are already being vaccinated. Also, since February 1, vaccination with Sputnik V has started in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.
At the moment, 3 COVID-19 vaccines have been registered in the Russian Federation: Sputnik-V, EpiVacCorona, and KoviVak.
In addition to the two drugs described above, another one may soon appear.Crimean Federal University named afterVernadsky announced his intention to start clinical trials of his own vaccine called “Lasso”. At the moment, it is known that the tests will begin in the spring.

“We will move from pre-clinical trials to clinical trials first on a group of volunteers, which will primarily show the safety of the vaccine for humans. Next, we will fight for the largest possible number of people to form antibodies, that is, the dose and combination of structures will be selected. In the spring, we will definitely try to do this” — Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry of the KFU Virologist Vladimir Oberemok.

Vladimir Vladimirovich also said that the Center for Virology and Biotechnology “Vector”, confirmed the data on tests on rabbits. According to the data provided, after administration of the drug, antibodies are successfully produced.

It turns out a new vaccine from COVID-19 – “Sputnik Light”, not so new. It is almost the same as the world-famous “Sputnik V”, but one-stage. Perhaps, after successful tests and research, Sputnik Light will become even more popular than its famous “brother”.
