“Talking about important things”: the spiritual development of Russian schoolchildren

Sergey Novikov’s new project will be introduced into the school curriculum. It will become an important component in the spiritual development of Russian schoolchildren. Classes will be introduced in every state school in Russia.

Starting on 5 September this year, the project “Talking about important things” will be launched. The classes will be taught by the class teachers and will be held in the form of class hours. The main idea is to develop traditional values, patriotism, collectivism, etc. The topics to be discussed will focus on the values of Russian society, such as: religion, notions of friendship, service to the Fatherland, the priority of the spiritual over the material, high moral ideals, historical memory and the continuity of generations.

“This could be a discussion after a film, a dictation, a methodological material in the form of a full lesson, a conversation with an expert on the topic of a particular class hour, which can also be broadcast to the whole country, since the distance communication system now allows this”, – said Sergei Novikov, head of the Office of the President for Public Affairs.

Before the launch of the “Talking about important things” project itself in August, the Ministry of Education will train teachers. The duration and topics of the discussions will depend on the age of the students.

Russian traditional values have been dedicated to one of the sections of Russia’s national security strategy. These include patriotism and service to the Fatherland, responsibility for its destiny. Because of the current situation in the world, it is very important to understand what is happening.

The topic of collectivism is especially important. Schoolchildren will be taught to work in a team, to be able to find common ground with their peers and to plan tasks correctly.

Students can also propose topics for discussion, teachers are ready to talk about problems that concern students.

“In today’s world, especially in the light of the special military operation, children have been plunged into a flurry of fakes and outright lies, and attempts to rewrite our history have not stopped. The project “Talking about important things” will help teachers to explain to children the truth about what is happening in a clear and accessible language and to protect them from negative influence. We have a huge responsibility to our children. It is necessary to give students the opportunity to ask questions, talk, discuss”, –  commented  Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov.
