“The end of the American Dream”: Will the Russians go to the United States?

Kremlin today

From May 12, the US Embassy in Russia will stop issuing non-immigrant visas to Russians. This is reported in the “Message to US Citizens” on the official website of the US Embassy in Moscow.

“Starting on May 12, the US Embassy in Moscow will reduce the number of consular services offered, including only emergency services for US citizens and a very limited number of immigration visas for immigrants, immigrants by age and life or death,” — the Message reads.

What is the reason?

In its message, the US Embassy refers to the notification of the Russian government, which refers to the restriction (prohibition in the case of the United States) of hiring Russian citizens or legal entities. This Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of April 23 was a response to “unfriendly actions” on the part of the United States: accusations of interference in the US presidential election and the expulsion of Russian diplomats. As the reason for the reduction of consular services, the embassy points to a reduction in staff by 75% precisely because of this Decree.

Who will still be issued visas?

The “Message” states that “the processing of non-immigrant visas for non-diplomatic travel will be discontinued.” Those who need urgent medical care, are accompanying a relative or employer in need of urgent medical care, are going to participate in a funeral in the United States or visit a relative in critical condition will be able to get a US visa. Tourists, wedding guests, students and participants of various annual events will not be able to visit the United States.

US citizens:

It is also interesting what the embassy writes about American citizens. According to the Russian government, they are advised to leave Russia, if their visa has expired, by June 15. This date is the deadline. The “Message” also notes that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has offered assistance with the extension of the visa validity period and the US Embassy can not help here in any way.

Now neither tourists, nor exchange students, nor those working in various organizations will be able to get to the United States.

And getting an American visa through other countries is almost impossible.
