On April 22, an international conference on combating climate change was held. The participants were about 40 countries. Most of them took an active part in the conference and announced their intentions to control the climate situation in the world. For example, Japan and the European Union plan to reduce greenhouse emissions by 50% by 2030. By this time, Canada has promised to cut emissions by 45% from 2005 levels, India plans to generate 450GW from renewable sources, and the US wants to cut greenhouse emissions in half.
The Russian leader, in turn, said that Russia is interested in intensifying international efforts in the field of climate. At the same time, President Putin noted that in his address to the Federal Assembly on April 21, one of the “most important tasks in the context of the country’s socio-economic development was to significantly limit the accumulated volume of net emissions in Russia by 2050.”
The White House press release also stressed that Russia noted the importance of re-capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and called on countries to cooperate on emissions of another, no less powerful greenhouse gas — methane.
Earlier in the day, on April 22, the US president said that the calls of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the climate summit inspired Washington, and the US side is set to work with Moscow in this direction, and the White House noted the progressiveness of the ideas outlined by the Russian leader.
“I listened to President Putin today. I think he was quite rational. He expressed some decent progressive ideas about the issues that we can certainly study and cooperate with each other, ” — John Kerry, the US President’s special climate envoy, commented on the conference.
We can definitely note the improvement of Russian— American relations. The American side is committed to a dialogue with Moscow and openly declares this. And given the previous statements of the American president that Russia and the United States are jointly responsible for the well-being in the world, the course of bilateral relations cannot but inspire.
