LVMH Prize 2022: Who will we see in the semifinals?

LVMH announced the names of the artists who entered the semifinals of the LVMH Prize 2022 design competition. This year, more than 1,900 applications were filed, of which the jury selected only 20 participants. The semi-final will be held on 2 March 2022. 

The results will be available for viewing on the website of the contest, as well as on the official pages of social networks from March 3 to 6. There will be presentations of the participants’ work, and the audience will be able to vote for their favorite designers.

We now know that the semi-finalists include Los Angeles-based designer Drew Curry’s menswear brand Airei, Sri Lankan designer Amesh Wijesekera’s brand Amesh, which does not divide collections into menswear and womenswear, and Ashlyn, a New York-based womenswear brand created by Ashlyn Park.

The following list of contenders has also been announced: Anthony Alvarez and Bluemarble, Chenpeng and Peng Chen, ERL, Goomeo designer Gum Jio, KNWLS Charlotte Knowles and Alexander Arsenault, Maximilian Maximilian Davies, Belgian brand Meryll Rogge Meryll Rogge, Niccolò Pasqualetti designer Niccolò Pasqualetti, Palomo Spain, Paula Canovas del Vas, Róisín Pierce, Ryunosukeokazaki, S. S. Daley, Tokyo James, Weinsanto, Winnie NY and Yueqi Qi.

The LVMH Award is open to designers from around the world, but under the age of 40. Applicants must have at least two women’s or men’s clothing collections or two collections that do not belong to gender. 

There will be no winners without prizes: 

  • The winner of the Young Designer Award will receive a reward of €300,000 and will also be fully entitled to benefit from a bespoke mentoring programme. LVMH Group staff will provide the winner with professional support in various areas: sustainability in the field, communication, copyright and corporate law, as well as marketing, production and financial aspects of brand management. 
  • The winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Award will be rewarded with €150,000 and the right to benefit from a mentoring programme run by a dedicated LVMH team for 1 year.

In addition, each year the group awards prizes to three young graduates of fashion and design schools as part of its collaboration with these institutions. The winners and runners-up receive invitations to a one-year internship in the design studios of LVMH. Submissions for this competition are open from December 8, 2021. The deadline is March 15, 2022.  

A passion for creation is essential for LVMH. It enables it to contribute to the global development of the fashion world through corporate philanthropic initiatives, which include: 

  • National Association for the Advancement of Fashion Art (ANDAM) award. 
  • International fashion and photography festival in Yeer. 
  • Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. 
  • Investment fund for young designers set up by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.
