On February 3, the Moscow Museum of Russian Impressionism presented the works of avant-garde artists whose paintings had been in Vyatka Governorate for approximately 100 years.

History of the collection

Events are concentrated at the beginning of the 1920s. At that time curators Evgeny Medvedev and Sergey Yakimov decided to show contemporary art to people and collected more than 300 exhibits from cities and towns of Vyatka Governorate.

At that time, the Soviet authorities quite often cooperated with avant-garde artists, seeing in them the potential, the ability to express and promote the communist ideas of those days.

The first exhibition was “Avant-garde”. On a cart in the 21st century» was held in autumn 2020 in Yekaterinburg «Yeltsin-center». A year later, in the spring, the works of Vyatka artists were added to the existing paintings.

The Museum of Russian Impressionism will be the third point of this fascinating cultural journey. The exhibition consists of three main departments: «Realistic Tradition», «Avant-garde Search» and «Abstract Method».

The exclusive work by Kazimir Malevich was found by the curators of the event in the collection of the Sloboda Local History Museum, and in critical condition. Approximately three months were spent raising funds to restore the work of the great artist, with around 1,000 people taking part in the project.

A special project «Art Transportation of Art» will be opened within the framework of the exhibition. On the third floor of the museum will be presented modern special transport and professional equipment with which to pack paintings and sculptures, as well as to mount exhibitions.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to find out how much such equipment costs and what needs to be done in order to transport the work of art in complete safety.
