“There is a chance”: Russian performers return to Ukraine

Kremlin relations

On October 26,  the Security Service of Ukraine issued an announcement that some Russian artists may perform in Ukraine from now on. These artists include Yelka, Basta and Irina Krug. This possibility stems from the fact that no data was found about the artists’ illegal visits to Crimea in the last few years.

“The Security Service of Ukraine has no information that pop singer Elka and chanson singer Irina Krug visited the Ukrainian Crimea temporarily occupied by Russia through the border of the aggressor country. The rapper Basta received an entry ban back in 2017 because of his performances on the Crimean peninsula, but he has not committed any new actions to the detriment of Ukraine’s national interests for three years. From this it follows that for the time being these artists can visit the country and perform on its territory”, – said in the report of the Ukrainian newspaper “Obozrevatel”.

Earlier, in 2017, Vasily Vakulenko (Basta) was banned from admitting to Ukraine for three years, the ban was lifted in September 2020, and the artist was excluded from the “black list” by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The “black list” of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine implies a list of cultural figures of the Russian Federation who “pose a threat to national security.” The most prominent personalities are Oleg Gazmanov, Iosif Kobzon, singer Valeria, Pelageya, Alexander Rosenbaum, Yulia Checherina and others. Unfortunately or fortunately, this list is expanding every day, with more and more artists being added to it.
