Algeria’s offence at Macron’s words

Algeria has closed its airspace to France. The reason for this was the accusation by Emmanuel Macron of “rewriting history” of Algeria, and the generalization sounds like “hatred of France.

The French General Staff learned of the ban on the morning of October 3.  According to the information provided by the General Staff, France had not received permission to fly, but there was no official statement from Algeria.

Previously, French warplanes flew over Algerian territory while heading to Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. From these countries, the Sahel region is formed, in which the country has been conducting a military operation “Barhan” against Islamist terrorist groups since 2014.

The French military ambassador was recalled from Algeria following statements by President Macron. Algeria called the act irresponsible. Deutsche Welle writes that the decision to recall the ambassador may be linked to an article in the French newspaper Le Monde of October 2, which said that Macron stated that Algeria is governed by a “politico-military system”, the country has an “official history” which the authorities “completely rewrote” by laying down “hatred for France.

«Taking into account the comments which many French sources attribute to the President of France, Algeria categorically rejects any interference in its internal affairs», — Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun said in a statement on Twitter.
