Sotheby’s is a global art business, offering you the rarest and most unique finds.
In 1976 a unique agency called Sotheby’s was created, specializing in luxury real estate. It is the first and only agency that not only offers exclusive facilities, but also the individual approach of agents.
The auction at which McLow’s collection was sold was the most profitable auction ever conducted by Sotheby’s house. The private collection went on the market because of the owners’ divorce.
A total of 35 exhibitions contributed $676.1 million to the collection of the most famous artists of the 21st century.Most of the exhibits were at auction for the first time. At the same time all the presented elements of art were sold.
“This evening I felt a real synergy with the work we proposed. Each of them marked the highest point in the artist’s career, just as their sale marked the unrivaled peak of my career”, – Oliver Barker, chairman of «Sotheby’s Europe», who conducted the auction.
According to Sotheby’s press service, buyers from all over the world, including Russian buyers, participated in the auction. The pre-trade exhibitions, previously held in cities around the world, attracted more than 27,000 viewers.
The sale of this collection was a welcome result of a court order to separate the property following the divorce of American millionaires Harry and Linda McLow.
Sotheby’s CEO Charles Stewart called the McLeough Collection the leading collection of contemporary world art ever on the market.
Buyers have never been so active. McLow’s next auction is scheduled for May 2022.
