The explorations in the ancient city Hittite began in 2008, and since 2012, archaeological excavations have actively begun. After such a long time, archaeologists managed to find a mosaic in central Turkey. According to their assumptions, this mosaic is one of the oldest in history. The mosaic includes 3,147 different stones, and its size is 3 by 7 meters. Scientists believe that its age is 3.5 thousand years, but they can not be sure of this information. The age of the mosaic may be more, but so far scientists can only speculate. The main value and feature of the mosaic is its age, as for any other ancient objects.

This archaeological find, though found in modern times, will certainly leave its mark on history and may affect its further development. At the moment, the mosaic found is the oldest in the history of the world. It has been stated that the mosaic highlighted the imperfections of the technologies of the time. «The style of the mosaic is quite primitive» – said Hussein Chiftci.

Hussein Chiftci is the Director of Culture and Tourism of Yozgat Province.

The mosaic is a tiled floor decorated with geometric ornaments and patterns. Archaeologists believe that the same tiled surface was located in the courtyard of the temple of the God of Storm. Similar mosaics have previously been found in Greece, but they do not carry the title of the oldest.

“We know that there are similar mosaics in Greece, but we believe that the mosaics here are older than they are,» that is exactly what Anacleto D’Agostino, a professor at the University of Pisa and leader of the excavation team, said.

The specialist said that the appearance of such an ancient excavation will increase the level and value of tourist visits, many would be interested to be on such an ancient mosaic, to realize the value of this place and fully immerse themselves in its history and atmosphere.
