Expert’s opinions

Prague has raised suspicions against Russian security services of involvement in two explosions at an ammunition depot in Vrbetice on October 16 and December 3 in 2014. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said that “on the basis of unambiguous evidence” there is a right to suspect that officers of the Russian military intelligence GRU were involved in the explosion of ammunition.

The head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, commented on the statements of Czech President Milos Zeman:

“After all this, the Czech Republic should at least apologize, if, of course, there are remnants of independence in decision-making in Prague.”

Who provoked this conflict, for what purpose and what development of events can be expected further? Comments on this issue were given by an expert on Eastern European markets, Alexander Ivanov

(last name and first name were replaced):

— Alexander, who do you think provoked the conflict?

— The conflict between the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic was provoked by the Czech side with the consent and approval of Washington.

— What goals do you think are being pursued?

— Let’s start with the goals of the United States, namely: maintaining anti-Russian sentiment among the citizens of the Czech Republic and the EU, as well as preserving the image of the enemy. Squeezing Moscow out of the Czech market as a potential US competitor. One of the main markets is nuclear energy, in particular, Rosatom has already lost the opportunity to win the tender for the modernization of the Czech nuclear power plant “Dukovany”, as well as a ten-year contract for the supply of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants.

Zeroing out the preferences previously available to Russia in the Czech Republic, namely the most-favored-nation regimes in cultural relations (cross-years of Czech and Russian culture, etc.).To stop the attempt of Czech politicians, who are in favor of establishing bilateral political and economic ties with Russia, to negotiate with Moscow on the supply of Russian vaccines to the Czech Republic.

Compromising these politicians in the eyes of the local and European polit. the elites, a prime example of the Czech President Milos Zeman, he and his followers are now very much weakened.
