Pyramid of Djoser

The Pyramid of Djoser is the first stepped tomb of a pharaoh in ancient Egypt. These steps are believed to take the ruler to heaven. The pyramid was built not only for the deceased, but also for his wives and children. Eleven burial chambers were prepared for the family members in the tunnels of the building. A visit to the pyramid is now part of the tour of Saqqara, which is situated 30 km from Cairo.

The Egyptian National Museum is the world’s largest museum of ancient Egyptian art. It is here that 160 thousand exhibits from all historical periods of that time are preserved: stone sarcophagi, statues, steles, manuscripts, mummies and so on. Interestingly, the museum did not immediately get its modern name. In 1858 it was the Bulak Museum, from 1891 to 1900 it was the Gizeh Museum, and after that it was the Egyptian Museum. Today, everyone can visit the museum with a ticket and also take a guided tour with a detailed description of the exhibitions.
