Did you recognize the country?

Then we will tell you about the Seychelles in more detail.

The Republic of Seychelles is an island state. It is located in East Africa, covering an area of 455 square kilometers. The Seychelles occupies 115 islands, 33 of which are inhabited. The population of the republic is 98.5 thousand. The capital of the Seychelles, Victoria, is home to about ⅓ of the population. It is located on the largest island of Mahe.

Let’s touch on the history of this state. In 1502, Vasco da Gama identified the future Amirant Islands in his records, and Portuguese cartographers recorded the island of Ilha Ganaa (Mahe) on compass maps. For about two centuries, the Seychelles passed from hand to hand of European countries, and was a pirate haven. In 1756, the French colonists began to create plantations, transporting slaves here from Madagascar. In 1794, power passed into the hands of the British. The archipelago became part of the colony of Mauritius, but in 1903 was separated into a separate crown colony of Britain. In 1976, the Seychelles became independent. During the reign of the first president, there were about seven coup attempts. But now there is peace and quiet in the country.

Let’s talk a little about active recreation. In addition to the beautiful beaches in the republic, there are many interesting places, and here are a few of them:

  1. Morne National Park is located on the island of Mahe and covers 20% of its total area. It is a mountain of volcanic origin, overgrown with tropical forests. Many years ago, Europeans organized plantations of various spices and tea here. Walking along the hiking trails, you can enjoy the beauty of plants-and animals-endemic.

2.Aldabra Atoll is an amazing coral island that encircles the lagoon. It is included in the UNESCO list of the World Heritage of Mankind. Currently, there is a research base here. And she studies giant land turtles, Cuvier’s cowgirl, and many other endemic animal species. You can get here by getting a special permit, but it’s worth it.

3.Village of artisans. It is located on the island of Mahe. It was created to introduce tourists to Creole culture. Here you can see Creole household items and buy souvenirs in the form of boats, paintings, as well as coconut figurines.

Seychelles cuisine is a mixture of European, Asian and African cuisines. It is characterized by low sharpness and lightness, a large amount of fish, fruits of local plants and spices. Fish is sold absolutely everywhere: in restaurants, cafes and shops on the shore. Theme nights are also popular here. In restaurants, you can often try not only local cuisine, but also dishes from other continents.

We will tell you some interesting facts about the Seychelles, so that you will finally fall in love with them:

  1. The air temperature here almost never falls below 25 degrees.
  2. The head of a typical Seychelles family is a woman.
  3. Only one hurricane has been recorded in the archipelago in 500 years.
  4. For tourists who are going to rest here for up to 30 days, a visa is not required.

Ride a surfboard or go fishing? Explore nature reserves or lie on the beach? It all depends on you. Have a good holiday in the Seychelles!
